Men's Hoops Holds Off St. Francis to Move to 8-5 in CCAC Play

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team came away with a gritty 89-83 win at home Wednesday, Jan. 22, inside the Student Activities Center. With the victory, the Titans pushed their winning streak to two and are now 14-7 overall and 8-5 during Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Senior Kourtlandt Martin lead the team with 18 points while four other players reached double figures for the Titans. Martin also added seven rounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Miles Tracy scored 16 points and added a team-high four assists while junior guard Dylan Allen notched 14 points. Myles Simmons and Sergio Diaz were the final IU South Bend players to add double digit points with 13 and 10, respectively.

The Titans held a 54.8 to 50 advantage in field goal percentage, but the Saints owned a 51.9 to 47.1 edge from three-point range. IUSB also led in points off turnovers (25-23) and second chance points (14-8), having also racked up a 34-26 rebounding advantage.

IU South Bend jumped out to a 26-17 lead before St. Francis went on a 15-5 run, taking a one-point lead with just over six minutes to play in the first half. A Donyell Meredith II jumper would then go on to spark the Titan offense as IUSB took a 53-47 advantage into the locker room.

Simmons gave IUSB its largest lead of the game at 8:25 on the clock off a jumper as the Titans lead by as many as 21 (81-60). After a bench technical and an offensive surge from USF, the Saints threatened the score by four points. Tight defense and clutch offensive plays from the Titans sealed the victory at home.

IUSB hits the road for its next two contests, beginning at Robert Morris on Saturday, Jan. 25 before making the short trip to IU Northwest on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to conclude the month of January. The Titans return home on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m., playing host to Trinity International inside the SAC.
