Titans Outlast IU Northwest in Overtime Pushing Win Streak to Four

GARY, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team outlasted Indiana University South Bend in overtime Wednesday, Jan. 29, inside the Savannah Center. The Titans outscored the RedHawks 8-5 in the extra five minutes of play, giving IUSB its fourth consecutive victory and first win in Gary, Ind. since the 2014-15 season.

With the win, the Titans are now 16-7 on the season and 10-5 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference games. Meanwhile, IU South Bend boosts its road record during the 2019-20 campaign to 7-5.

The Titans jumped out to a two-point lead, 81-79, with just over three and a half minutes remaining in the extra period off a jumper from senior Myles Simmons. Clutch free throws from senior transfer Kourtlandt Martin and counterpart Simmons down the stretch helped seal the three-point victory.

Junior guard Dylan Allen led IU South Bend with 14 points, aided by a 5-for-8 showing from the floor and 2-of-4 from behind the arc. Martin scored 13 points to go along with a team-high four assists. Simmons scored four of his 11 total points in overtime and two steals.

Junior Norell Smith nearly recorded a double-double on the night, adding 12 points and tied Miles Tracy for a team lead with nine rebounds. Tracy also registered nine points.

Overall, the Titans shot an impressive 49.2 percent from the floor and 42.1 from three-point range but only converted 17 of their 25 freebies. The RedHawks finished the game shooting 39.7 from the field and just 28.6 from beyond the arc. IUSB held a 31-17 advantage in points off turnovers, 31-16 lead in bench points but was outrebounded 47-37 to IUN.

The Titans return to action at home to begin the month of February, hosting Trinity International on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside the Student Activities Center.
