Men's Basketball Earns Program-Best 21st Victory at Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Shortly after earning its second 20-win season in program history last time out, Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team defeated Cardinal Stritch 87-69 on the road to become the winningest team in program history on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15. The Titans improve to 21-8 overall and 16-6 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Scoring performances by senior Kourtlandt Martin, juniors Sergio Diaz, Norell Smith and Dylan Allen and sophomore Donyell Meredith II led IU South Bend to its fourth straight and ninth victory on the road. Diaz led the Titans with a game-high 18 while Martin and Smith added 10 and 17 on the day. Allen just missed out on his 1000th career point with 12 and needs just five more to reach the milestone.

Despite trailing by nine early, the Titans went 15-for-25 from the floor (60 percent) to boost IUSB past CSU by four heading into the locker room by a score for 42-38. The Wolves were hot from the floor in the first 20 minutes as well, shooting at a 53.6 clip.

Martin got the Titan offense started in the second off a layup in the IUSB first possession of the half. The play sparked a 11-5 run to help IU South Bend secure the record-breaking season.

IUSB finished the game shooting 51.7 percent from the floor off 30-of-58 shooting and 40.7 from behind the arc (11-for-27). The Titans converted 16 of its 19 freebies while Cardinal Stritch went to the line on just four occasions, converting two. The Wolves shot from the floor at a 45.9 clip and 57.9 percent from three. IU South Bend held a 34-28 advantage on the glass, 22-15 advantage on bench points while also converting 19 points off 14 Cardinal Stritch miscues.


IU South Bend concludes the regular-season at home next Saturday, Feb. 22, hosting No. 22 Saint Xavier at 3 p.m. for Senior Day. Prior to the contest, the Titans will honor their three seniors in Martin, Miguel Mahan and Myles Simmons.
