#24 Titans earn road win over Trolls

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Holding their opponents to just 18 points in the first half, No. 24 IU South Bend used a strong defensive performance to remain undefeated in the CCAC by defeating Trinity Christian 80-47 on Wednesday night.

Donyell Meredith led the way for the Titans (11-2, 7-0 CCAC), scoring a game-high 21 points in the win. Micah Poole, in his first start of the season, collected 16 points along with five rebounds and four assists. Da'Vion Davis tallied 16 points off the bench on 5-of-8 shooting.

IUSB held the Trolls (6-6, 3-5 CCAC) to just 29.2% (7-24) shooting in the first half, and doubled up their opponents with Sam Snodgrass' three-pointer to go up 14-7 by the 11:41 mark. A layup and foul drawn by Davis pushed the lead to 21-10, and after the Trolls' bucket on the next possession, the IU South Bend defense would hold the home team without a field goal for the next six minutes of play. In that time the Titans would go on a 10-2 run to claim a 17-point lead, 31-14 on Meredith's layup with 2:08 left in the first half.

Another scoring drought for Trinity Christian in the second half would put the game out of reach, as the Titans held the Trolls for another seven minutes without a field goal. IUSB posted a 14-4 run, as Davis' free throws midway through the second half pushed the advantage to 55-29 with just over ten minutes left to play.

The Titans would maintain their lead the rest of the way, securing their eighth win in a row. IUSB will close out the first half of their CCAC schedule this weekend, when they travel to Judson to take on the Eagles. Tipoff from Elgin, Ill. is set for 4:00 p.m. ET.
