MARION, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend softball team came up short in both games of the doubleheader at No. 5 Marion on Sunday, March 14. The Titans fell 10-2 in game one before dropping a 8-0 decision in the second tilt against the nationally ranked Knights.

Game One: IUSB 2 MU 10 – Starting pitcher
Becca Stevens threw a 5.1 inning game, suffering the loss as the senior allowed nine hits that saw eight runs while striking out three different Marion batters.
IUSB held the early 2-1 advantage after the first inning. Junior
Mackenzie Myars continued her hot streak, hitting her third homer in three games to bring home
Kat Bessler in the top of the first inning. Bessler reached base off a single to the short stop, her fifth hit of the season.
Marion added two runs in the bottom of the second against Stevens to take the 3-2 advantage and would help seal the victory with a run in the fifth and six in the final sixth inning of play.
Junior
Brittany VanderBrink was the other Titan to register a hit in game one as the Avon, Ind. native went 2-for-2 that was highlighted by a leadoff double in the second inning.
Game Two: IUSB 0 MU 8 – The Titans fells behind 6-0 through the first three innings of game two after conceding five runs in the first and one in the third that led to an eight-run loss and pushed IU South Bend to a 2-8 overall record.
VanderBrink was the only Titan to register a hit in the second game that was in the top of the fourth with two outs.
Shelby Baker ended the inning with a fly out to center and left VanderBrink stranded at first after her single up the middle.
On the day, VanderBrink went a perfect 3-for-3 against the nationally ranked opponent.
Senior
Aly Brickel registered the start in the second game, allowing five hits, eight runs and struck out one Marion batter on 74 total pitches.
IU South Bend returns home Saturday, March 20 to host Cleary University at Dick Pfeil Field. First pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m. before the Titans host Cornerstone University on Wednesday, March 24 for a doubleheader against the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference foe.
