Softball Stumbles in Doubleheader Sunday Despite Myars' Grand Slam

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University South Bend softball drops both games on the road to St. Ambrose on Sunday, April 18 to end their six-game road stint in three days.

Game One: SAU 6, IUSB 4
The Titans scored four runs off three hits in game one led by a Mackenzie Myars home run and two RBI while Emily Anglin and Olivia Zarantonello registered one hit each.

IUSB started off strong scoring two runs in the first inning as Myars brought in Anglin after homering to right center. The Fighting Bees answered in the second and third scoring all six runs on five hits while the Titans fell silent until the seventh.

Two errors from SAU gave IU South Bend a fighting chance in the final inning as they scored two runs to bring it to 6-4. VanderBrink reached on a fielders choice forcing Cave was out at third giving St. Ambrose their third out to end the game.

Senior Becca Stevens pitched all six innings allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four batters.

Game Two: SAU 11, IUSB 7
St. Ambrose kept the ball rolling into the second game scoring three runs on three hits in the first and two runs in the second. IUSB scored a solo run in the second on a Williamson single to left field bringing in VanderBrink to make the score 5-1.

A powerhouse fourth from the Titans gave them the 7-6 lead heading into the fifth after scoring six runs on four hits. Schmitz and Anglin are walked with bases loaded bringing in two runs before Myars steps up to the plate hitting a grand slam to center field clearing the bases.

The Fighting Bees answered with five of their own in the bottom of the fifth putting the lead back into SAU's hands. Neither team would score another run for the rest of the game ensuring St. Ambrose the sweep after winning game two 11-7.

Williamson led in the second game going 4-3 at the plate with Myars bringing in four RBI going 3-1 for herself.

IU South Bend next game is Friday, April 23 at Trinity International for a doubleheader before returning home on Saturday, April 24 for senior day against Cardinal Stritch with first pitch starting at 1 PM.
