NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Facing their first test in nearly two weeks, No. 22 IU South Bend came out slow in the first few minutes, but raced out to an 83-50 win at Holy Cross in the cross-town rivalry on Monday night.
Going scoreless in the first three minutes of play, the Titans (13-3, 9-1 CCAC) fell behind 8-0 to start before three-pointers from Dylan Allen and Sam Snodgrass gave IUSB their first lead of the night by the 13:42 mark.
The Titans continued to pull away throughout the first half, building a double-digit lead on Allen's jumper with 6:44 to play to go up 30-20. Allen collected 10 points in the first half to lead IU South Bend, and the Titans would take a 38-24 lead at the half after Donyell Meredith's three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Saints (9-11, 4-8 CCAC) were unable to make a second-half recovery, as IUSB came out after the break on a 14-4 run, increasing their lead to 52-28 after another bucket from Meredith. The Titans would lead by as much as 35 in the closing minutes, securing their fifth straight win over Holy Cross.
Allen led all scorers with 17 points in the win, as four Titans in all finished in double figures. Meredith tallied 15 points, as he and Allen both went 7-for-10 from the floor. Kenny Washington scored 13, with ten in the second half, and Sergio Diaz tallied 12.
The Titans continue a run of five games in the next ten days on Wednesday night, when they return to the Student Activities Center for their first home game in over a month. IUSB welcomes St. Francis to South Bend on January 19, with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
