SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Donyell Meredith posted a career-high 30 points to lead No. 19 IU South Bend, as the Titans opened the CCAC Tournament with an 85-80 victory over Judson on Wednesday night at the Student Activities Center.
Meredith's performance is the first 30-point game for the Titans (25-5) this season, and the first since Jan. 2, 2019. (Norell Smith, 32 vs. Akron-Wayne, Ohio). The junior finished 11-for-20 from the floor, 7-for-7 from the free throw line, and collected a team-high seven rebounds in the win.
Three other players finished in double figures on the night, as Dylan Allen finished with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Miles Tracy and Kenny Washington both recorded 12 points, going 5-for-7 from the floor.
The Titans scored the first six points of the game, all from Tracy as the junior scored all ten points for IUSB in the opening minutes. The Titans would hold a single-digit lead throughout most of the first half, briefly stretching the advantage to 11 after four straight points from Meredith made it a 44-33 score with 49 seconds remaining in the first half.
Judson (15-16) pulled to within six early in the second half, but Meredith took over on the other end of the floor, scoring ten straight points for the Titans as part of a 12-2 run that gave the home team a 58-42 advantage with 14 minutes left to play. The Eagles made one final push, responding with a 15-5 run that closed the gap to 63-59 with 9:26 on the clock.
A pair of buckets from Allen gave the Titans some breathing room, and Washington's layup with 4:22 left made it a three-possession game, 75-66. Judson would close the gap down the stretch, but two key trips to the free throw line from Allen secured the win for the Titans.
With the victory, IU South Bend advances to the CCAC Tournament semifinal, where they will host No. 6 seed Lincoln at the Student Activities Center. Tipoff with the Lynx is set for Friday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m.
