Titans fall to Saint Francis in one point road loss

JOLIET, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (13-6, 10-3 CCAC) lost to the University of Saint Francis Saints (9-8, 8-5 CCAC) by a score of 57-56. Wednesday's loss drops the Titans conference record to 10-3 which leaves them in a tie for second place with Saint Xavier, who both trail Olivet Nazarene and Roosevelt by a half game. 

IU South Bend led by as much as 13 points a little over halfway through the first half before Saint Francis closed out the half on a 17-7 run that cut the Titans lead to three points going into halftime. 

With just over eight minutes to play in the game, a Saint Francis three point field goal gave the Saints a 48-46 lead, their first lead since the 18:37 mark of the first half. However, the Titans fought back, down by eight with just over three minutes to play IU South Bend went on an 8-1 scoring run fueled by senior guard Kenny Washington and junior forward Dejon Barney to bring the Titans within a point. 

With six seconds remaining in regulation, Kenny Washington took a contested jump shot at the buzzer that rimmed out to give the Saint Francis Saints a one point victory and break the Titans three game winning streak. 

IU South Bend featured three players in double figures in Wednesday's contest, led by Kenny Washington who finished with 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the field as well as 2-3 from beyond the three point line. Washington also hauled in six rebounds and dished out two assists. 

Next in line in scoring for the Titans was Donyell Meredith II who tallied 14 points on 6-13 shooting from the field. 

Dejon Barney and Miles Tracy both flirted with double-double status yet again, Barney was the third Titan to reach double figures with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Tracy finished with eight points and eight rebounds. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, January 21st, when they host East-West University at 3:00 PM in the Student Activities Center.
