SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (1-0, 0-0 CCAC) defeated the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils (0-1, 0-0 WHAC) by a final score of 89-79 to begin the 2023-2024 season.
The IU South Bend offense featured four different Titans to score double digits, led by junior guard
Quentez Columbus who finished with a game high 25 points.
Columbus' 25 points came on an efficient 60% shooting from the field while also knocking down three of the four three point field goals that he attempted.
Next in line in scoring for the Titans was
Jylen Petty, who finished with 20 points while only missing one field goal attempt.
The 6'6 forward also led the Titans on the glass by posting a team high ten rebounds, good enough for his first double-double of the season.
The next Titan to score double digits was reigning All-CCAC First Team selection
Dejon Barney, who finished with 18 points.
Barney's 18 points came on better than 58% shooting from the field, while also knocking down four of the five free throws that he attempted. Barney also led the Titans in assists with five while playing in a team high 33 minutes.
The last Titan to record double digits in the scoring column was senior guard
Micah Poole who finished with 14 points.
Poole's 14 points came on only eight shots, three of which were three point field goals. Poole also anchored the IUSB defense, tying for the team lead in steals.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, November 4th, when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on the Cougars of the University of Saint Francis at 1:00 PM.
