SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (7-16, 0-2 CCAC) fell to the Saint Xavier University Cougars (15-9, 2-0 CCAC) by scores of 4-1 and 7-5.
Game 1
Sophomore pitcher
Abigail Yarnell started on the mound for IU South Bend in game one of the doubleheader, pitching all seven innings while allowing just three earned runs.Â
Saint Xavier struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Sarah Bowen and an RBI single by second baseman Sofie Carr.Â
Yarnell proceeded to shutout the Cougars for the next five innings until a seventh inning two run homerun by Alexus Reese provided Saint Xavier with all the insurance they would need.Â
IU South Bend got their lone run of the contest on a fifth inning RBI single by second baseman
Olivia Zarantonello that plated
Hannah Albright.Â
The Titans were blanked in the sixth and the seventh, going on to lose game game one by a final score of 4-1.
Game 2
Saint Xavier jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two, scoring multiple runs in the first, third, and fourth innings.Â
Maddie Leisher got the Titans on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a two run homerun that plated
Jaela Patton to cut the Saint Xavier lead to 7-2.Â
Taylor Larson continued the IU South Bend scoring in the sixth with a two out RBI single that scored
Abigail Yarnell and brought the Titans within one swing of tying the game.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore catcher
Maddie Leisher left the yard once again, blasting her second two run homerun of the day, shortening the Cougars lead to 7-5.
IU South Bend could not keep the inning going after the homerun and ultimately fell in game two by a score of 7-5.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, March 31st, when they host Trinity International University at 3:00 PM at Newton Park.
