LAKEVILLE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (11-20, 4-6 CCAC) swept the Trinity International University Trojans (2-20, 0-8 CCAC) in a doubleheader by scores of 5-2 and 9-8. Wednesday's sweep improves the Titans CCAC winning streak to three consecutive games.
Game 1
Trinity International struck first in game one when first baseman Casey Cousino singled in the top of the fourth inning to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
IU South Bend answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth when center fielder
Jozie Ramer stole home to tie the game at 1-1.
Trinity International regained the lead in the top of the fifth when TIU shortstop Heather Anderson singled to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
IU South Bend tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when
Olivia Zarantonello reached based via error, scoring
Jozie Ramer to tie the game at 2-2.
Senior shortstop
Kaylee Darnell broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth with a two out bases clearing 3 RBI double that gave the Titans a three run lead and ultimately the victory in game one by a score of 5-2.
Game 2
Starting pitcher
Abigail Yarnell got the Titans on the board first in game two with an RBI single that plated
Jordan Watts to give IU south Bend a 1-0 lead through one inning of play.
Trinity International then scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.
IU South Bend shortened their deficit when right fielder
Haley Fair reached on an error that scored
Jordan Watts to cut the TIU lead to 5-2.
Three more Trojans crossed the plate in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 8-2.
IU South Bend brought game two within two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks a sacrifice fly by
Kaitlynne Allen and a 2 RBI single by
Olivia Zarantonello.
Taylor Larson scored on a wild pitch to cut the Trinity International lead to 8-6.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth,
Kaitlynne Allen tripled down the right field line to score
Jordan Watts and
Jaela Patton and tie the game at 8-8.
Hannah Albright and
Jozie Ramer led off the bottom of the seventh with back to back singles before a
Jordan Watts walk off single won the game for the Titans by a final score of 9-8.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, April 14th, when they host the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University in a doubleheader on senior day starting at 3:00 PM.
