JOLIET, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (14-25, 7-11 CCAC) lost both games of a doubleheader to the University of Saint Francis Fighting Saints (29-7, 16-2 CCAC) by scores of 8-0 and 12-1.
Game 1
The Fighting Saints got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when right fielder Rose Mwaro singled in a run before shortstop Brittany Osborne doubled in two to extend the Saint Francis lead to 3-0.
A Saint Francis sacrifice fly plated one Saint in the third before four more Fighting Saints crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth to end the game with IU South Bend falling to Saint Francis 8-0 in game one.
The IU South Bend Titans saw their best chance to score in game one when
Abigail Yarnell doubled to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Yarnell was stranded on second after three straight Titan strikeouts.
Game 2
Saint Francis scored the first runs of Tuesday's game two when third baseman Danielle Callahan homered to center field to give the Fighting Saints a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.Â
Saint Francis went on to score multiple runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings to take a 12-0 lead headed into the fifth inning.
The lone IU South Bend run crossed the plate in the top of the fifth when shortstop
Kaylee Darnell tripled to left field to drive in
Danielle Gebhart and cut the Titans deficit to 12-1. IU South Bend went scoreless in the remainder of the fifth and lost game to 12-1.Â
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Thursday, April 27th, when they host the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees in a doubleheader at Dick Pfeil Field starting at 3:00 PM.
