WINONA LAKE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (2-4, 0-0 CCAC) swept both games of their doubleheader over the Grace College Lancers (0-2), winning game one 6-2 before taking game two by a final score of 9-4.
Game 1
The Titans got on the board in the top of the second inning when back to back hits from
Jaela Patton and shortstop
Jade Baker got two runners in scoring position before a
Jordan Watts RBI single and an RBI bunt from
Danielle Gebhart gave IU South Bend a 2-0 lead.
The Lancers scratched across one run in the bottom of the third to cut the IUSB lead in a half before a two run IU South Bend top of the fifth grew their lead to 4-1 thanks to a
Jozie Ramer RBI double and a sacrifice fly by
Jaela Patton.
The Titans got on the board two more times in the top half of the sixth via RBI double from
Kaitlynne Allen and RBI walk from
Summer Johnson.
Grace pushed across one run in the bottom of the frame but could not score for the remainder of game 1, giving IUSB a 6-2 victory.
Game 2
The Titans scored the first run of game two in the top of the first when
Jade Baker drew a walk to score
Kaitlynne Allen and give themselves an early 1-0 lead.
A third inning RBI double from
Abigail Yarnell scored
Summer Johnson to extend the IU South Bend lead to 2-0.
RBI doubles from
Maddie Leisher and
Jaela Patton plated three Titans in the top half of the fourth to further their lead to 5-0.
Jaela Patton drove in another run in the fifth courtesy of a sacrifice fly before
Maddie Leisher's three run home run broke the game open, giving the Titans a 9-0 lead. Leisher's fifth inning long ball ended her day with five hits and five runs driven in over the two game span.
The Lancers answered with four runs in the sixth but couldn't get anymore in the seventh, giving IU South Bend the doubleheader sweep, winning game two 9-4.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Sunday, March 3rd, when they travel to Indiana University Southeast for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM ET.
