Titans advance to CCAC semifinals with nail-biting 76-74 victory over Saint Xavier

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (21-8, 15-5 CCAC) defeated the Saint Xavier University Cougars (16-13, 11-9 CCAC) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals by a final score of 76-74. 

Jumping out to an early 5-0 lead and leading by as much as 10 in the first half the Titans controlled the game early until the Cougars mounted a comeback, cutting the IUSB lead to just three points going into halftime. 

A back and forth second half featured 13 lead changes in the game's final 20 minutes of action. 

Trailing by three points with just over four minutes to play in the game, guard Micah Poole connected on a three pointer to tie the game before senior Terry Ford gave the Titans a two point lead by sinking two free throws with under two minutes to play. 

Not going away, Saint Xavier took the lead back with a layup before Dejon Barney's three-point play sealed the win for the Titans, defeating the Cougars by two points to advance to the conference semifinal. 

The nail-biting IU South Bend win saw five Titans score in double figures, led by guard Micah Poole who finished with a team high 18 points, while also eclipsing 1,000 career points in his illustrious and successful IUSB career. 

Poole's 18 points came on better than 50% shooting from the field (6-11) while knocking down four three point field goals for the fourth time this season. 

The next Titan to reach double figures in the scoring column was senior forward Dejon Barney who finished with 17 points. 

Barney's 17 points also came on 6-11 shooting from the field while knocking down five free throws. 

The next Titan in the scoring column was forward Jylen Petty who finished with 16 points. 

Petty's 16 points came on better than 66% shooting from the field (6-9) while burying three triples. 

Other Titans to score in double figures included Quentez Columbus who finished with 13 points and Terry Ford who finished with 11 points. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, March 1st, when they travel to Roosevelt University for a CCAC semifinal matchup that begins at 8:00 PM ET.
