Titans split doubleheader, falling to Florida National before defeating Hannibal-Lagrange

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (3-10, 0-0) split a doubleheader on day one of their spring trip, dropping game one 4-3 to Florida National University (16-12) by a score of 4-3 before defeating Hannibal-Lagrange (0-9) by a score of 11-2.

Game 1

Sunday's opening game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Conquistadors scratched one run across before plating two more runners in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead through five innings of play.

The game remained 3-0 until the top of the seventh when Danielle Gebhart's RBI single drove in Aubrey Gearhart to bring the Titans within two.

Down to their final out, IU South Bend rallied to tie the game thanks to a 2 RBI single from right fielder Taylor Larson that tied the game at 3-3.

Game one went into extra innings with the Titans failing to score in the top of the eighth followed by a walk off Florida National single to defeat IUSB 4-3.

Pitching every out of the game, right handed pitcher Abigail Yarnell allowed just two earned runs on six hits to receive the tough luck loss.

Game 2

Scoreless through the first frame, the IU South Bend offense exploded for seven runs in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Alexis Riem, RBI hit by pitches by Reece Douglass and Kaitlynne Allen as well as two Hannibal-Lagrange errors.

The IUSB bats stayed hot in the third inning with an RBI single from Taylor Larson and a two RBI double by Maddie Leisher, extending their lead to 10 runs before Tessa Sexauer's RBI single capped off the Titans scoring.

Hannibal-Lagrange plated two runs in the fifth but could not score any more as the Titans went on to win game two by mercy rule 11-2.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Monday, March 11th, with another doubleheader as they take on Missouri Baptist University at 10:00 AM before squaring with the Cougars of Saint Francis (Ind.) at 12:15.
