MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (5-17, 0-0 CCAC) dropped their final doubleheader of their spring trip, falling 2-0 to Clarke University (7-6) in game one before concluding the trip with a 6-5 loss to Aquinas (14-4) in 11 innings.
Game 1
IU South Bend trailed from the first inning on when Clarke plated a run in the top of the first inning on two hits to take an early lead.
Game one remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning when the Pride scored another run on two hits to extend their lead to 2-0.
Held to just four hits in game one, the IUSB offense was led by pitcher
Jaela Patton who was the only Titan to finish with multiple hits.
Game 2
The Titans fell in another early hole in game two when Aquinas scored three runs on four hits to take the lead through a half inning of play.
IU South Bend answered in the bottom of the fourth inning, tying the game 3-3 thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Jade Baker and a 2 RBI single from
Taylor Larson.
The Saints of Aquinas College took the lead right back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring a run on one hit and an IUSB error to make the game 4-3 in favor of Aquinas.
Down to their last out, catcher
Maddie Leisher singled to score
Alexis Riem tying the game at 4-4 and sending game two into extra innings.
The game remained at 4-4 until the ninth inning when Aquinas took the lead before
Alexis Riem hit an RBI single to score
Taylor Larson and send game two to the tenth inning, tied at 5-5.
Aquinas scratched one run across in the top of the eleventh and the Titans could not score again, dropping game one by a final score of 6-5.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, March 20th, in their first home game of the season, hosting Siena Heights University at 4:00 PM ET.
