UPLAND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (3-5, 0-0 CCAC) split a doubleheader with the Taylor University Trojans (5-5) falling in game one 9-7 before winning game two 7-5.
Game 1
IU South Bend plated three runs in the first inning of game one on home runs by
Maddie Leisher and
Jaela Patton before the Trojans answered with five runs of their own to take a 5-3 lead through one inning of play.
A second inning sacrifice fly from Taylor grew their lead before a third inning
Jaela Patton RBI ground out brought the Titans within two runs.
Game one stayed scoreless until the sixth inning when
Jade Baker hit a sacrifice fly before Titan center fielder
Jozie Ramer tripled to tie the game at 6-6 and send game one into extra innings.
IU South Bend and Taylor traded runs in the eighth inning before the Trojans hit a walk off home run to win game one 9-7.
Game 2
Taylor plated two runs in the first inning before the Titans took a 3-2 lead in the second inning thanks to RBI fielder's choices from
Leah Dawson and
Jozie Ramer before
Maddie Leisher left the yard for the second time on the day to give the Titans a one run lead.
The Trojans cut their deficit to two in the third inning before
Maddie Leisher's three run home run extended the IUSB lead to 6-3.
The Titans added another run in the fifth inning before Taylor answered with a run in the sixth and seventh innings but ultimately fell short as IU South Bend went on to win game two by a final score of 7-5.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Sunday, March 3rd, when take on Indiana University Southeast at 1:00 and 3:00 PM ET.
