Titans seventh inning rally earns doubleheader split with Cornerstone University

LAKEVILLE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (6-20, 0-2 CCAC) split their doubleheader with the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles (14-5, 2-0 WHAC) losing game one 4-2 before defeating Cornerstone in game two by a final score of 5-2. 

Game 1

Cornerstone took the lead in game one in the top of the second inning by plating four runs on four hits and an IUSB error to take a 4-0 lead. 

The Titans answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning, recording four hits including RBI singles from Maddie Leisher and Summer Johnson to cut their deficit to 4-2. 

IU South Bend could not score another run in game one as right handed pitcher Jaela Patton got stuck with the tough luck loss, pitching five innings while allowing just two earned runs. 

Game 2

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. 

Game two remained 2-0 in favor of Cornerstone until the bottom of the seventh inning when the IUSB offense exploded for five runs. 

Just two outs from being swept in the doubleheader, the Titans tied the game when Jaela Patton's 2 RBI double drove in Jade Baker and Jozie Ramer to tie the game at 2-2. 

A Kaitlynne Allen single set the scene for IU South Bend second baseman Jordan Watts to send the Titans home victorious by hitting a three run walk off home run to earn IUSB the doubleheader split. 

Freshman pitcher Savannah Hamilton earned the win in game two, pitching all seven innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six Golden Eagles. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Tuesday, April 2nd, when they travel to Chicago, Ill., for a doubleheader the the Saint Xavier Cougars starting at 4:00 PM ET.
