HUNTINGTON, Ind.- On Wednesday, March 6th, The Indiana University South Bend Titans (3-9, 0-0 CCAC) dropped both games of their doubleheader versus the Huntington University Foresters (5-5) by final scores of 12-1 and 7-6.
Game 1
The Foresters of Huntington University jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four earned runs on four hits.
Huntington then grew their lead to 9-0, plating five runs in the bottom half of the second inning on four hits and two Titan errors.
IU South Bend remained down nine runs until the top of the fourth inning when second baseman
Jordan Watts' RBI double scored
Jaela Patton, getting the Titans on the scoreboard, now trailing 9-1.
Three more Forester runs in the top of the fifth ultimately cut the game short to just five innings, with IUSB falling to Huntington 12-1 in game 1.
Game 2
Falling in another early hole, the Titans gave up six runs on six hits to fall to an early 6-0 deficit through two innings of play.
IU South Bend answered with four runs of their own in the top of the third inning thanks to an unearned run on a Huntington error, a fielder's choice from
Jozie Ramer, and a two RBI single from
Jordan Watts to cut their deficit to just two runs.
The Foresters responded with a run in the bottom of the third before left fielder
Kaitlynne Allen's RBI groundout scored
Summer Johnson, cutting the Huntington lead to 7-5.
IUSB plated one run in the top of the fifth when first baseman
Summer Johnson's RBI single scored center fielder
Jozie Ramer, bringing the Titans within one run.
However, IUSB was blanked for the remainder of the game, ultimately dropping game two of the doubleheader 7-6 to Huntington University.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Sunday, March 10th, when they begin their spring trip with a doubleheader against Florida National University and Hannibal-Lagrange University.
