Titans softball splits doubleheader with Siena Heights

LAKEVILLE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (12-24, 5-5 CCAC) split their non-conference doubleheader against the Siena Heights University Saints (12-20, 2-10 WHAC) winning game one 15-0 before falling in game two 4-3. 

Game 1

IU South Bend took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when third baseman Abigail Yarnell's home run scored Kaitlynne Allen to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. 

The IUSB offense continued to roll in the bottom of the second when they plated seven runs on eight hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead through two innings of play. 

Maddie Leisher, Kaitlynne Allen, Abigail Yarnell and Summer Johnson all drove in runs in the frame while designated player Jaela Patton capped off the second inning scoring with a two run home run. 

Held scoreless in the third, IU South Bend erupted again in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on seven hits with runs batted in by Tessa Sexauer, Aubrey Gearhart, Danielle Gebhart, Grace Swangin and Taylor Larson

Freshman right handed pitcher Savannah Hamilton picked up her seventh win of the season, holding the Saints to just two hits through three innings of work while striking out seven. 

Game 2

Siena Heights scored first in game two in the top of the second inning on a two RBI single to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. 

Maddie Leisher's RBI single in the bottom of the second scored Leah Dawson and cut the IUSB deficit to just one run. 

Third Baseman Leah Dawson connected for a two run home run in the bottom of the third that scored Jordan Watts and gave the Titans a 3-2 lead. 

Individual runs in the top of the fourth and seventh innings allowed the Saints to take a one run lead and ultimately go on to victory in game two by a final score of 4-3. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, April 19th, when they travel to Roosevelt University for a doubleheader with the Lakers beginning at 4:00 PM ET.
