Titans Fall to Holy Cross in Crosstown Match

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- The Indiana University South Bend women's soccer team battled local rival Holy Cross College on Saturday afternoon, but fell 2-0 in a hard-fought Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Match Summary

The crosstown showdown saw the Saints (9-5-2, 8-1-2 CCAC) strike just before halftime, when Miriam Iturriaga-Sanchez finished a feed from Quinn Pankiewicz in the 44th minute to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead.

IU South Bend (2-10-3, 0-8-2 CCAC) stayed within striking distance thanks to a litany of stops from goalkeeper Rylee Cotton, who finished the match with 15 saves, including a stop on a penalty kick early in the second half. Despite the defensive stand, Holy Cross extended its advantage in the 56th minute as Abigail Fouts found the back of the net, assisted again by Pankiewicz.

The Titans generated a few looks on goal, including efforts from Aryanna Allen and Olivia Enyeart, but couldn't find the breakthrough.

Team Notes

IU South Bend registered six total shots, with two on-goal.

Cotton recorded 15 saves, her third-consecutive double-digit effort in net.

Allen and Enyeart led the Titans offensively with one shot on-goal apiece.

Holy Cross outshot the Titans 25-6 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Next up for the Titans will be a home match against Calumet on Monday at 5:00 pm at Newton Park.
