Balanced Scoring and Interior Control Lift IUSB Past Cornerstone

SOUTH BEND --- IU South Bend extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday afternoon, earning an 89-75 non-conference victory over Cornerstone at the Student Activities Center behind balanced scoring and a strong inside presence.

The Titans (7-4, 4-1 CCAC) wasted little time establishing control, opening the game with an early run sparked by interior finishes from Kyle Olagbegi and Collin Schmidt, along with a pair of  three-pointers from Andrew Hedgepeth. IU South Bend built a double-digit lead before the midpoint of the first half and continued to pressure Cornerstone with ball movement and aggressive defense, taking a 47-39 advantage into halftime.

Cornerstone made one push in the second half, trimming the margin to four in the early going, but the Titans answered. IU South Bend consistently punished the Golden Eagles in the paint, finishing the game with a 48-28 scoring edge inside, while also controlling the glass with a 41-28 rebounding advantage.

Five Titans finished in double figures, led by a near-flawless performance from James Stevenson. Coming off the bench, Stevenson scored 13 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting, while adding six rebounds, four steals, and a block.

Andrew Hedgepeth and CJ Hornbeak each added 14 points for a team-high, with Hornbeak knocking down four three-pointers. Collin Schmidt finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Ethan Hill chipped in 10 points and nine boards, continuing his steady play in the frontcourt.

IU South Bend shot 57.1 percent from the field and 45.0 percent from beyond the arc, while getting 39 bench points.

With the win, the Titans continue to build momentum heading into the holiday break and look to carry their strong form into the DHG Classic at Oakland City University on Monday, December 29 against Cumberland at 5:00 pm.
