Titans improve to 10-4 in conference with win over Governors State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (13-9, 10-4 CCAC) defeated the Governors State University Jaguars (10-12, 6-8 CCAC) by a final score of 72-65 to extend their winning streak to four consecutive games. 

Down by one nearly more than halfway through the first half, the Titans scored nine of the next 11 points to take the lead. 

Still the Jaguars rallied, ending the first half on a 12-6 run to take a 33-30 lead heading into halftime. 

IU South Bend came out hot in the second half, scoring the first 10 points of the half to gain a 40-33 lead. 

Governors State remained competitive, shortening their deficit to just six points at the 13 minute mark. 

The Titans pulled away after that, leading by as much 16 points with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. 

Governors State was able to get back within single digits but could not pull any closer as IU South Bend defeated Governors State by seven. 

An efficient IUSB offense shot almost 60% from the field and were led in scoring by Quentez Columbus who finished with 18 points. 

Columbus' 18 points came on almost 70% shooting from the floor (8-12) while falling just one assist shy of a double-double with nine. 

The next Titan to score in double figures was sophomore forward Kyle Olagbegi who tied a season high with 13 points. 

Olagbegi's 13 points came on better than 50% shooting (5-9) while also recording four rebounds in just 22 minutes of action. 

The last Titan to score in double figures was senior forward Jylen Petty who finished with 12 points. 

Petty's 12 points all came from beyond the arc, knocking down four three point field goals for the sixth time this season. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, February 5th, when they host the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of Saint Joseph at 7:30 PM in the Student Activities Center
