Game Recap: Softball |

Titans Swept by UNOH

LIMA, Ohio - The Indiana University South Bend Softball Team (2-10, 0-0 CCAC) dropped both games of a weekend doubleheader to the Racers of University of Northwestern Ohio (7-4, 0-0 Conf.) losing game one 7-5 and game two 10-3.

Game One (L 7-5)
The Titans hit the road once again looking to get back in the win column against UNOH in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday in Lima, Ohio. IUSB got right to work gaining an early lead scoring four runs in the second inning fueled by three straight RBI singles from Aubrey Gearhart, Jordan Watts, and Summer Johnson. Despite UNOH scoring a run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning, the Titans still held the lead 4-3 going into the final three innings of the game. Maddie Leisher hit an RBI triple in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-3, but the Racers responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead. The Titan offense went scoreless for the rest of the game while UNOH added an insurance run in the sixth inning making way for a game one 7-5 Titan loss. Maddie Leisher and Summer Johnson were both 3-4 with an RBI in the losing effort. Savannah Hamilton took the loss throwing 5.0 innings giving up 6 runs, 5 earned, on 8 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Game Two (L 10-3)
IUSB looked to salvage the doubleheader in game two and once again got out to an early lead scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. UNOH responded immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at 3-3. The Titans wouldn't score the rest of the game despite having bases loaded multiple times and leaving runners in scoring position in three of the last five innings of play. The Racers tacked on one run in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning, and two runs in the fifth to run away with game two 10-3. The game was called after the top of the sixth inning due to lack of daylight. Jordan Watts led the offense in hits going 3-4, while Leah Dawson led the team with two RBI's. Elyse Starr picked up the loss in relief throwing 3.0 innings giving up 7 runs, 3 earned, on 7 hits. Abigail Yarnell started the game in the circle only going 2.0 innings giving up 3 runs, 3 earned, on 3 hits while striking out 1.

The Softball Team won't play again until March 16th when they head down to Melbourne, Fla. to compete in the USSSA Space Coast Games for their Spring Break trip where they will play 10 games against seven different opponents over a six day span. Their full Florida schedule can be found on the IUSB Athletics Website.
