SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Indiana University South Bend Softball (8-24, 2-6 CCAC) team dropped both games of a Senior Day CCAC doubleheader to the University of St. Francis (IL) (11-14, 6-2 CCAC) by scores of 5-2 and 10-4.
Game 1 (L 5-2)
The Titan Softball team looked to get back in the win column on Senior Day against USF, it was a close game through the first four innings but the Saints had a three-run fifth inning that propelled them to a game one win. The Saints got on the board first in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. USF would add another run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Titans would respond right away in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own on an
Abigail Yarnell RBI double to make it a 2-1 game. USF would push three runs across in the top of the fifth inning on three RBI singles to take a 5-1 lead. The Titans tried to inch their way back into the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a
Savannah Hamilton RBI walk, but left the bases loaded with two strikeouts ending the Titan threat. IUSB couldn't get much going in the bottom of the seventh inning and dropped game one 5-2.
Abigail Yarnell picked up the loss in the circle throwing seven innings giving five runs on 11 hits and four strikeouts.
Game 2 (L 10-4)
The Titans got out to an early lead in game two of the doubleheader scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning on an
Abigail Yarnell RBI single and two runs in the bottom of the second inning on an error by USF that gave the Titans a 3-0 lead through the first two innings. The game would stay 3-0 through the fourth inning until the Saints exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning on seven hits going in front 7-3. IUSB responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a
Leah Dawson RBI sacrifice fly to bring the Titans within three. The Saints would extend their lead with three more runs in top of the seventh inning to pull away 10-4. USF ended the Titan threat in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runners on base, completing the doubleheader sweep over IUSB.
Savannah Hamilton picked up the loss throwing 4.1 innings giving up four runs on nine hits and five strikeouts,
Jaylah Harlan threw the final 2.2 innings giving up five runs on seven hits and one strikeout.
The Titans return to action Sunday April 13th as they host Viterbo University (7-19, 4-6 CCAC) for another CCAC doubleheader at Dick Pfeil Field, first pitch is slated for 1pm ET.
