Softball loses both to St. Ambrose in final CCAC doubleheader

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Indiana University South Bend (13-27, 7-9 CCAC) softball team dropped both games of their final Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Confrence doubleheader to St. Ambrose Universty (25-18, 11-5 CCAC) losing game one 9-7 despite a late come back and dropping game two 2-0 as the Titans were shutout for third time this season.

Game 1 (L 9-7)
St. Ambrose got out to an early 9-0 lead scoring four runs in the first inning, one run in the second, and four more runs in the third inning. The Titans got a single run back in the fourth inning on a Savannah Hamilton RBI single. IUSB continued to chip away at the SAU lead scoring three runs in the fifth inning on a Aubrey Gearhart RBI triple, a Reece Douglass RBI ground out, and a Abigail Yarnell RBI single. The Titans scored another run in the sixth inning making it a 9-5 game on a Summer Johnson RBI sacrifice fly. IUSB continued to threat in the final scoring two runs on a Jordan Watts RBI single, but watts was stranded at second base ending the game handing the Titans a 9-7 loss in game one of the doubleheader. Abigail Yarnell got the loss in the circle only lasting 1.2 innings giving up five runs on four hits and zero strikeouts. Savannah Hamilton kept SAU at bay throwing four innings giving up no runs on one hit and four strikeouts. Jordan Watts and Maddie Leisher were the only Titans with multi hit games, while Watts led the team two RBI.

Game 2 (L 2-0)
Game two was a battle in the circle between both teams, the Titans scattered four hits in the first three innings but were unable to push any runs across. In the fourth inning SAU scored two runs on two RBI bunts taking the lead 2-0 after four innings of play. The Titan offense was held hitless for the remainder of the game, allowing SAU to take game two of the doubleheader 2-0. Jaylah Harlan suffered the loss in the circle despite her efforts, throwing four innings giving up two runs on four hits and two strikeouts. Savannah Hamilton threw the last two innings giving up no runs on one hit and three strikeouts.

The Softball team finishes their CCAC schedule with a 7-9 record good for fifth place and a spot in the CCAC softball tournament in Coach Annie Dehnke's first season at the helm. The Titans will be back in action Sunday April 27th when they host University of Northwestern Ohio (30-16, 17-6 Conf.) who the Titans have already faced and lost to three times this year. The CCAC softball tournament, hosted in Crown Point, Ind., will begin on Thursday May 1st.
