CROWN POINT, Ind. - The Indiana University South Bend (14-30, 7-9 CCAC) softball team fell to Calumet College of St. Joseph (17-26, 7-9 CCAC) 14-6 in six innings in an elimination game of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, ending the 2025 season for IUSB.
The Titans found themselves in an early hole giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, but responded right away with four runs of their own on a
Abigail Yarnell RBI single and bases clearing triple from
Leah Dawson to take the lead 4-2. Calumet responded themselves in the top half of the second inning scoring five runs on six hits, three of the five runs were scored with two outs. Calumet would add another run in the third inning on a two RBI single to take a 8-4 lead. The scoring from both sides halted for a couple innings as both teams traded scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth inning. Calumet finally pulled away from the Titans in the sixth inning scoring six runs on seven hits to take a commanding 14-4 lead. Once again four of Calumets runs came with two outs. With the Titans facing a potential mercy they tried to fight their way back to extend the game pushing two runs across on an
Elyse Starr two RBI double, but a pair of flyouts stranded Starr and the Titans dropped the game 14-6 in six innings.
Abigail Yarnell was the lone Titan with a multi hit game going two-for-four with an RBI, while
Leah Dawson and
Elyse Starr led the team two RBI a piece.
Abigail Yarnell started in the circle for IUSB only lasting one inning giving up two runs on four hits and two strikeouts.
Jaylah Harlan suffered the loss throwing just 0.2 innings giving up five runs on six hits and no strikeouts.
Savannah Hamilton threw four innings as well giving up seven runs on 10 hits and three strikeouts, while
Aubrey Gearhart threw the final 0.1 of an inning for IUSB.
With the second loss in the CCAC Tournament the Titans have been eliminated in the third round. The Softball team finishes the season 14-30 overall and 7-9 in CCAC play, an identical record from last season, the season was also the first under new Head Coach Annie Dehnke.
