Titans Fall on the Road at Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. --- The Indiana University South Bend women's soccer team continued conference play on the road Saturday, falling 3-0 to Viterbo University.

The V-Hawks struck quickly, taking a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the match on a goal that snuck inside the top corner. IU South Bend settled in after the early deficit and generated several opportunities of its own, putting four first-half attempts on goal.

Olivia Enyeart tested the Viterbo goalkeeper twice in the opening 11 minutes, while Erica Thackery and Emma Martin also put shots on frame.

Viterbo carried the one-goal advantage into halftime before tacking on two more in the second half.

The Titans continued to battle through the closing minutes and created one final opportunity through Martin. In the 89th minute, Martin pressured the Viterbo goalkeeper near the edge of the box, blocking an attempted clearance before pursuing the loose ball toward goal. Martin was taken down as she attempted to finish the play, resulting in a red card for the V-Hawks goalkeeper. The ensuing sequence did not produce a goal, and Viterbo closed out the 3-0 decision.

IU South Bend finished with 12 shots and seven on goal compared to 18 shots and 13 on frame for Viterbo. Thackery put all three of her attempts on goal, while Martin and Enyeart each recorded two shots on target. Mikayla Saunders made eight saves in goal for the Titans.

The loss moves IU South Bend to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The team will battle at Holy Cross in its next bout on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
