Five-Goal Outburst Powers IU South Bend Past Calumet

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. --- The Indiana University South Bend women's soccer team opened conference play in convincing fashion Tuesday, defeating Calumet College of St. Joseph 5-0 on the road.

IU South Bend controlled the match throughout, finishing with a 32-0 advantage in shots, including 21 attempts on goal, while earning six corner kicks. The victory moved the Titans to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Genevieve Smith opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Smith got behind the Calumet defense after a ball from Myalise Ortega glanced off a defender, leaving Smith one-on-one with the goalkeeper before she finished the chance for her second goal of the season.

The Titans carried the 1-0 lead into halftime before quickly adding to it after the break. Less than a minute into the second half, Emma Martin delivered a cross directly into the path of Erica Thackery, who finished from close range to double the advantage.

Martin then got on the scoresheet herself in the 54th minute. Her initial attempt was stopped, but she stayed with the play and put the rebound away with her left foot to make it 3-0.

Olivia Enyeart added the fourth in the 66th minute, striking first-time from the top of the box after a ball from Joslyn Miller. Enyeart tucked the shot inside the near right post and into the upper corner for her first goal of the season.

Martin provided the final tally in the closing minutes. Sophie Aguilera sent a cross into the area, and Martin slipped the ball past the goalkeeper in the 86th minute for her second goal of the match and third of the season.

Martin finished with two goals and an assist, while Smith, Thackery and Enyeart each scored once.

The five-goal performance marked IU South Bend's first game with at least five goals since its win over Calumet during the 2024 season.

The Titans will finally wrap up their seven-match road trip on Saturday at Mount Mary at 2:30 pm.
