Historic Offensive Surge Powers IU South Bend Past Governors State

LAKEVILLE, Ind. --- History continued to be made for IU South Bend Women's Soccer. Tuesday night at Newton Park, the Titans made an early statement and never looked back in a 6-1 victory over Governors State University.

The win was IU South Bend's first over Governors State in six all-time meetings and extended the Titans' winning streak to a program-record three consecutive matches. Under head coach Bobby Barnes, IU South Bend improved to 4-4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, already matching the program record for wins in an entire season with seven matches still remaining. The three conference victories are also the most in a single season in program history.

IU South Bend wasted little time taking control. The Titans scored three times in a span of just 95 seconds, then added a fourth before the match reached the 20-minute mark.

Olivia Enyeart opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Yulissa Gallegos sent a long free kick forward, and Enyeart took the ball off the bounce before beating the goalkeeper for the early advantage. Less than a minute later, Enyeart slipped a pass behind the Governors State defense to Genevieve Smith, who finished one-on-one to make it 2-0.

The duo connected again just 37 seconds later. Enyeart moved the ball to Smith at the top of the box, Smith returned it immediately, and Enyeart struck without taking a settling touch to beat the keeper to the right for her second goal of the match. Smith then struck again in the 19th minute, getting behind the defense and finishing toward the left post to give IU South Bend a commanding 4-0 lead.

Governors State pulled one back before halftime, but the Titans quickly restored the four-goal margin in the second half. Erica Thackery found space along the left side in the 55th minute and lifted her finish over the goalkeeper and inside the opposite post.

Emma Martin capped the scoring in the 73rd minute, breaking behind the back line and fighting off a trailing defender before finishing the chance for IU South Bend's sixth goal.

Enyeart finished a standout night with two goals and four assists, having a hand in all six Titan goals, which marked a program record for an individual in a single game.

Smith added two goals and an assist, while Thackery and Martin each scored once. IU South Bend finished with a 28-12 advantage in shots and put 14 attempts on goal. Mikayla Saunders made seven saves in net.

The six-goal showing marked IU South Bend's third straight match with at least five goals, continuing a stretch that has produced the longest winning streak in program history and the Titans' strongest conference start to date.

IU South Bend will look to build off its strong start to conference play next week on Wednesday, hitting the road to play IU Northwest at 8:00 pm ET.
