Doug Buysse

Doug Buysse enters his eighth season as head coach of the IU South Bend baseball baseball program.

During the 2024 season, Doug helped spark the Titans to 18 regular season wins and 10 CCAC wins, leaving IUSB just outside of the CCAC Conference Tournament. 

In 2023, Buysse led the Titans to 24 regular season wins and 15 conference wins, helping lead Indiana University South Bend reach the CCAC Tournament Championship for the first time in program history. 

During the 2022 campaign, IU South Bend won 16 games as well as 9 conference games, earning a CCAC Conference Tournament bid. 

In 2021, Doug led the Titans to their most successful season in CCAC history, winning 19 conference games and a total of 24 games in the season. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 baseball season was cut short after the Titans went 7-9 overall that was highlighted by three wins of a weekend series at Texas A&M - Texarkana in February. Ten different baseball players were named to the 2020 Spring Academic All-CCAC team.

During the 2019 campaign, the Titans went 13-38 overall and 11-19 during Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference play. Buysee led freshman Colin Mack, who was honored as the CCAC Freshman of the Year, to a team-high 60 hits in 179 at bats for a .331 average. Mack also notched seven doubles, 20 RBI and stole 11 bases. The honor was also the first time in Titan baseball program history that an athlete was named CCAC Freshman of the Year. Junior Jordan Moore earned First Team All-Conference honors with a .344 batting average. Moore connected on 13 doubles, one home run and 24 RBI. He also led the team in on-base percentage with a .443 clip, drawing 26 walks on the year.

In his first year, the Titans finished 13-39. He had one player named to the CCAC All-Conference Team and seven named to the CCAC All-Academic Team. The Titans posted a 3.1 Team GPA, and received The Champions of Character Team Award as voted on by fellow CCAC coaches.

Buysse brings experience from the NCAA Division II level, high school level, as well as travel baseball.  Prior to IU South Bend, he was the Head Coach at South Bend Washington High School in South Bend, IN.   He has also worked as a professional instructor at the 1st Source Bank Performance Center at Four Winds Field, and coached the South Bend Cubs Elite team for two years.  

The North Liberty, IN native graduated from John Glenn High School in 2005.  While at Glenn, Buysse was a part of four conference championships, two sectional championships, two regional championships, and one Final Four appearance.  Following his career at Glenn, Buysse went on to play four years at Saint Joseph’s College in Rennselaer, IN.   He was a part of  one of the winningest teams in program history in 2008; a team which finished 44-16 while also making the Division II national tournament.  Buysse graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s in History.

He returned to his alma mater in 2010 as an Assistant Coach working primarily with catchers while also helping to develop hitters and offensive strategy.  Following the 2011 season, Buysse returned to South Bend where he began teaching and coaching as an assistant at South Bend Riley and later John Glenn High School before being named the Head Coach at South Bend Washington in 2014.

Buysse currently resides in South Bend, IN with his wife Meg and daughters Adalynn and Leah.
