Women's Hoops Ties Longest Win Streak of the Season with Victory at Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Despite poor second and third quarters, No. 24 Indiana University South Bend women's basketball tied its longest winning streak of the season of seven games after defeating Bethel University on the road, 91-82, on Friday evening. With the win, the Titans improve to 14-1 overall.

For the second consecutive game, senior guard Kyleigh Kubik led IU South Bend's double-digit scoring efforts tying a career-high 24 points. Freshman Maddie Gard contributed 16 points, eight rebounds, a team-high five assists and two steals while sophomore Rachael Robards chipped in 15 points.

IUSB wasted little time getting out front, outscoring the Pilots 30-13 in the first 10-minute stanza. The lead sparked a Bethel comeback as the Pilots held a 42-27 advantage in the second and third quarters, trailing three to the nationally ranked Titans.

The Titans did not waver in the four quarter, added 34 points and giving up 27 to take the nine-point victory on the road. The road win pushes IU South Bend to a perfect 6-0 in unfamiliar territory.

For the game, Indiana University South Bend went 29-for-66 from the floor (43.9 percent) and 8-of-25 from distance (32 percent). IUSB was strong at the free throw line, converting 25-of-31 freebies for a 80.6 percent clip. On the flip side, the Titan defense held the Pilots to 27-of-58 from the floor and 8-of-22 from beyond the three-point line.

Bethel held a minimal 36-35 advantage on the glass while IUSB dished out 15 assists to BU's 13. The Titans forced 19 turnovers and had 13 miscues.

With exam week next week, IUSB takes seven days off from the court before traveling to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday, Dec. 21. The CCAC clash in Whiting, Ind. is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EST).
