Sophomores
Emma Fisher and
Maddie Gard led the Titans with 17 points each while shooting a combine 50% from the field. Senior
Courtney Haynes dished out a game high of three assists and added 14 points to the scoreboard pulling down four offensive rebounds for a total of five.
Starting out the game, Haynes knocks down her first trey of the contest in the opening possession. She would later go on to shoot 4-8 from behind the arc making a three to open three of the four quarters for the Titans. Goshen capitalized on the IU South Bend's foul trouble getting to the charity strip twelve times in the first half. The Titans and Maple Leafs traded baskets the whole first half going into the locker room after the first 20 minutes tied 33-33.
The Crimson and Cream came out of the half scoring the first five points after a three by Haynes and M. Gard's and one. Junior
Sara Doi dribbles the ball as time wind downs in the third and hits a last second three to give the Titans a 50-49 edge going into the fourth.
Similiar to the previous three quarters, the two teams traded buckets down to the final seconds. IUSB led by just one point until sophomore
Katie Gard steals the ball and leads junior
Rachael Robards for a transition layup with 57.5 seconds lto go. A defensive stop and foul on Goshen would send Fisher to the line where she would sink two free throws to give the Titans a five-point lead, the largest lead of the game. A quick layup for Goshen on the other end would bring them within three but were forced to foul sending M.Gard to seal the game with two free throws with only 13 seconds left. A hail mary three by Goshen would rim out as the Titans secure the ball in the final seconds.
IU South Bend was limited to only 35.8% shooting compared to Goshens 39.2%, lost the rebound battle 43-35 and shot five less free throws. The outlying stat of the game was the 20 turnovers by the Maple Leafs with nine Titan steals that was converted into 17 points in our favor. Goshen was only able to score three points off of ten IUSB turnovers.
The Titans return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 3 when they welcome Roosevelt into the
Student Activities Center for the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season at 5:30 p.m.
