SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – No. 25 IU South Bend would double-up their opponents in the second half, as the Titans pulled away down the stretch in a 68-42 road win at Lawrence Tech on Saturday.
Leading by six at the half, the Titans (2-0) out-scored the host Blue Devils (2-1) by a 40-20 margin in the second half to earn their second win in the early season. Spencer Pettit led IUSB with 19 points, going 7-for-8 from the floor, and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Micah Poole pitched in with 11 points off the bench, on 4-of-8 shooting. Miles Tracy finished with ten points, five rebounds, and three steals in the win.
The Titans managed a small lead throughout most of the first half, until an 11-2 run over a three minute stretch gave IUSB a 28-20 advantage by the 2:01 mark, highlighted by five straight points from Donyell Meredith that started the rally.
Lawrence Tech would briefly take the lead in the second half, going up 37-36 with 13:49 left to play. The Titans responded with back-to-back threes from Sam Snodgrass and Poole, kicking off a run of 17 unanswered points over a five-minute stretch. Poole contributed eight points during the run, including a pair of three-pointers as the Titans took a 53-37 lead.
IU South Bend would keep Lawrence Tech scoreless over the final 6:04 to secure the win.
The Titans wrap up the current three-game road trip on Wednesday, when they take on Bethel (Ind.). Tipoff from Mishawaka is set for 7:00 p.m.
