#25 Titans fall in road trip to Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Dylan Allen matched his career high with 25 points, but No. 25 IU South Bend suffered their first setback of the season in a 95-87 loss on the road to Bethel (Ind.) on Wednesday night.

Allen led all scorers on 9-of-17 shooting with a 3-for-8 performance from three-point range. The senior also pitched in with six assists to pace the Titan offense. Donyell Meredith finished with 18 points, Miles Tracy scored 14 with a team-high eight rebounds, and Spencer Pettit finished with 11 on 4-of-7 shooting.

Both sides traded the lead in the early moments of the game, but the Titans (3-1) would build a double-digit advantage with Miles' layup at the 12:56 mark of the first half. A pair of free throws from Allen with 7:16 on the clock gave IU South Bend their largest lead of the night, 38-26. Bethel (3-1) would bounce back, out-scoring the Titans in the five minutes before halftime by a 17-6 margin and leaving IUSB with a one-point lead at the break, 47-46.

Over the first ten minutes of the second half, IU South Bend and Bethel would trade the lead eight times, with neither side taking more than a three-point advantage. Following Meredith's layup at the 10:51 mark that put IUSB up 65-64, the Pilots put up ten unanswered points to claim a 74-65 advantage with 7:39 to play.

A layup from Tracy followed by a three from Allen would cut the Bethel lead down to 80-77 with 3:20 remaining, but that would be as close as the Titans would get the rest of the way.

The Titans will look to bounce back next Tuesday night, when they return to the Student Activities Center and open CCAC play with Holy Cross. Tipoff with the Saints on November 9 is set for 5:30 p.m.
