Titans rally late to defeat IU Northwest

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Tied late in the second half, IU South Bend secured the win down the stretch, 66-60 over IU Northwest on Saturday afternoon inside the Student Activities Center, to stay perfect in the CCAC.

The Titans (10-2, 6-0 CCAC) were led by junior forward Miles Tracy, who scored a team-high 19 points including a pivotal three-pointer with less than three minutes to play, that pushed the IUSB lead to seven down the stretch. Donyell Meredith and Dylan Allen each finished in double figures, scoring 15 and 12 respectively in the win.

A tight game throughout, neither side built a double-digit lead at any point as the Redhawks (8-4, 4-3 CCAC) opened with an 8-3 lead in the early moments. A pair of scores from Tracy followed by a three-pointer by Sergio Diaz put the home team in front, 12-8 by the 15:03 mark of the first half.

The lead would change hands eight more times in the first half, but the Titans closed on a 7-2 run over the final 3:22 before halftime, taking a 35-31 lead after Kenny Washington's steal and fast-break layup. Tracy tallied 11 of his 19 points in the first half, going 5-for-6 from the field before the break.

The Redhawks responded midway through the second half, taking a 42-41 lead on a three at the 15:35 mark. A 7-0 run would build the advantage to 49-44 three minutes later, but IU South Bend mounted their comeback with under eight minutes left on the clock.

Seven unanswered points put the Titans back in front, highlighted by Sam Snodgrass' steal and dunk that tied the game at 54-54. Minutes later, Allen's three-pointer gave IUSB the lead.

A three-point play for IU Northwest tied the game again, 57-57 with 5:39 left to play, but the Titans secured the win from there, scoring nine straight, including the game-securing shot from Tracy.

The win keeps the Titans atop the CCAC standings with a 6-0 record, which will be put on the line next Wednesday night, when they travel to Trinity Christian. Tipoff with the Trolls is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on December 15.
