SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In its home opener, Indiana University South Bend baseball improved its weekend series record against Lourdes to 3-1 after sweeping the Gray Wolves on Saturday, March 13 by way of scores 7-0 and 15-6. The Titans are now winners of three straight, improving to 4-10 overall.

Game One: IUSB 7, Lourdes 0
An offense heavy first inning for the Titans resulted in a quick 5-0 score. With
Logan Smith on base and zero outs, senior
TJ DeHerrera continued his hot hitting streak with his fifth home run of the season.
Nolan Lorenz reached base on a fielder's choice bringing in Jared Bias. Lorenz proceeded to steal second as
Kole Miller stole home and would eventually score the final run of the inning on a short stop error.
Three straight outs in the second brought the Titans back to the top of their batting order with
Logan Smith reaching first on a fielding error. The home run king DeHerrera wore the pitch before he had the chance to send another one out of the park. A wild pitch and a walk would load the bases with zero outs. Young and DeHerrera would advance bases with
Logan Smith scoring the lone run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The third and final scoring inning included a walk for
Zach Dehn, a single by
Logan Smith and an intentional walk for DeHerrera loading the bases with one out. Young tagged up on a caught foul to score IUSB's seventh run of the game.
Winning pitcher
Robbie Berger allowed one hit and zero runs in the final four innings earning him his first win of the season on the mound.
Game Two: IUSB 15, Lourdes 6
Like game one, the Titans held Lourdes scoreless in the top of the fourth before scoring four of their own in the bottom half.
With one out, the bases quickly filled up with hit by pitch, a single for
Logan Young, and a walk. A
Scott Stetz sing brought home DeHerrera and Young, adding two runs to the board. A single by
Austin Ver Wey brought Bias home with pinch runner
Connor Wise scoring on Lorenz grounder. The inning ended on a full count strike out giving the Titans a strong 4-0 lead over Lourdes.
The Wolves began the second inning stronger than the first with two batters earning base hits. The Titans rallied three outs before allowing any runners to reach home for the Wolves.
Jake Vanderwoude started the bottom of the second inning, reaching first on a fielding error and was brought home by a
Logan Smith homer. DeHerrera reached base on a walk but made it to third on a wild pitch and balk. Bias singled through the left side, bringing in DeHerrera for the final run of the inning.
Offense quickly picked up for Lourdes scoring six runs in the following three innings allowing only two hits for the Titans.
With the Wolves within one, IU South Bend stepped on the gas scoring eight runs, the most runs in a single inning this season. With the heavy 15-6 lead, Titans closed the game in the seventh allowing just one hit.
Zack Dobos earned his first win of the season on the mound.
The Titans hit the road for a mid-week match-up against CCAC opponent Lincoln on Wednesday, March 17 before returning home on March, 20 for a doubleheader against Saint Xavier.
