GRANGER, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend baseball team began the St. Francis weekend series with a 9-4 victory over the Fighting Saints Friday, April 2.
The Titans upped their record to 12-13 overall and 8-3 during Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and are now winners of their last six and hold a 9-3 record at Rex Weade Stadium during the 2021 campaign.

IU South Bend plated nine runs off 10 hits, its fifth consecutive multi-hit performance, while St. Francis finished with nine. Four Titans picked up multi-hit efforts, led by sophomore
Jared Bais as the left fielder went 2-for-4 with a game-high two RBIs and one run scored.
Logan Smith,
Nolan Unger and
Colin Mack added two apiece, while Smith added a team-high two runs scored.
Sophomore
Zack Dobos picked up his third win of the season after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing four runs off six hits. The Dyer, Ind. native also delivered six strike outs on the afternoon.
The Titans looked to their bullpen, including
Jaidyn Morris,
Matt Rose and
Logan Young to close out the game. Young ended the game, forcing a double play to Smith, the second baseman.
Bais got the offense started in the first frame with a sacrifice fly out to center field, driving home Smith before Young stole home to put the Crimson & Cream up in front early, 2-0. The Fighting Saints added runs in the second and third to even the score after three.
Senior
TJ DeHerrera put IUSB in front with an RBI double, his ninth double of the season, while RBI singles from Bais and Unger gave the Titans the 5-2 edge after the fifth. Smith's right field RBI single scored Mack in the sixth for an insurance run.
After St. Francis responded with two in the seventh, the Titans quickly responded with a pair in the bottom half.
Jake Vanderwoude and Mack collected RBIs in the inning to push the Titan lead to four, 8-4.
Jake Dykstra scored the final run for the Titans after stealing second and coming home off the catcher's wild throw.
IU South Bend and St. Francis meet tomorrow Saturday, April 3, concluding the weekend series with a doubleheader. The first pitch in Joliet, Ill. is slated for 2 p.m.
