CHICAGO – The Indiana University South Bend softball team was swept in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference midweek doubleheader Wednesday, April 7, at the hands of Saint Xavier. IUSB dropped game one 8-0 before falling 11-3 in game two.
After a 10-day hiatus, IUSB dropped to 8-12 overall and 1-3 during league play.

Game One: IUSB 0, SXU 8
Senior
Savanna Schmitz went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Titans offensively. Junior
Mackenzie Myars also notched a hit for the Crimson and Cream.
Senior
Becca Stevens suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Freshman
Nichole VanZant finished the game, pitching the final two outs, allowing one run off three hits.
The Cougars erupted for five runs on off four hits in the bottom of the fifth, to take control, 7-0. An RBI double in the sixth sealed the victory for Saint Xavier.
Schmitz got the offense started in the first, with a leadoff single and then doubled to left center with two outs in the third but was stranded on the bases. Myars knocked her hit in the next frame with a single down the left field line.
Game Two: IUSB 3, SXU 11

Nicole Grazioli went 2-for-2 at the plate while Myars added a run to lead the Titans. Seniors
Shelby Baker and Schmitz added the other runs for the Crimson and Cream. Myars and Baker added RBIs in the night cap.
In the circle, senior
Aly Brickel was dealt the loss to drop to 3-3 this season after pitching 2.1 innings that saw seven runs off 10 hits with one strikeout. Freshman
Macie Couch threw the final 1.2 innings with four runs off four hits.
Myars delivered an RBI single in the top of the first, bringing home Schmitz to give IU South Bend the early 1-0 lead. The Cougars responded with three off six hits that saw three stranded. Saint Xavier added to its lead in the second with an RBI sacrifice fly, making the score 4-1.
IU South Bend cut into SXU's lead with a Baker RBI single down the right side in the third, cutting the deficit into half at 4-2.
Saint Xavier rallied, scattering four runs in the third, two in the fourth and a final run in fifth that sealed the doubleheader sweep over IUSB.
IUSB continues CCAC play at home Friday, April 9, hosting Trinity Christian for Type One Diabetes Awareness Day. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Dick Pfeil Field.
