SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend softball team split with Trinity Christian Friday, April 9, after a walk-off winner before falling in another offensive onslaught in the night cap. The Titans upped their record to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play after their Type One Diabetes Awareness Day.

Game One: IUSB 10, Trinity Christian 9:
Shelby Baker,
Olivia Zarantonello and
Nicole Grazioli tallied three hits in game one. Zarantonello went 3-for-5 with a game-high three RBIs. Baker finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a double and Grazioli added two RBIs after going 3-for-4.
Senior
Becca Stevens picked up the win on the mound, yielding nine runs over eight innings and striking out five.
After yielding eight runs though three, the Titans trailed 8-2. IU South Bend cut the deficit to three with a pair of runs in the fourth, making the game 7-4.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Trolls added two in the top of the sixth. The Titans rallied for five runs in the bottom half to even the ball game. Senior
Savanna Schmitz scooted into home after reaching on a short stop error. Other IUSB runs came from
Kat Bessler,
Haylie Williamson, Baker and
Emily Anglin.
With the game tied,
Brittany VanderBrink got IUSB's eighth inning started with a double down the left field line. After Baker sacrificed a bunt down, Vanderbrink promptly made it to third. Zarantonello roped a double to left to give Indiana University South Bend a 10-9 walk-off win.
Game Two: IUSB 6, Trinity Christian 8: Two quick scoreless innings for both teams started the second game. Trinity Christian got on the board in the third with three runs off two hits and two Titan miscues.
The Titans added two runs in the fourth and fifth while the Trolls added a run in the fifth, giving Trinity Christian the slight 4-2 edge. TCC added to its lead with a two-run sixth inning before the IUSB offense exploded for four runs in the bottom half.
Courtney Welborn drew a one-out walk and was brought home with a two RBI double from VanderBrink. Baker followed it up with a two RBI triple to right center, evening the score at six after six frames.
A pair of runs in the seventh from TCC and a scoreless IUSB bottom half gave the Titans the CCAC loss and the doubleheader sweep at home.
Up next the Titans welcome Calumet St. Joseph for a doubleheader at Dick PFeil Field on Tuesday, April 13 with the first pitch set for 3 PM.
