LAKEVILLE, Ind. - The Titans would put two in the back of the net on Saturday morning, but the IU South Bend attack was unable to keep pace, as the Titans fell in the 2021 season opener to Great Lakes Christian (Mich.), 5-2 at Newton Park.
Sophomores
Rebekahha Guess and
Marissa Million each scored their first collegiate goals in the match, keeping the Titans (0-1) within striking distance after a quick start from the Crusaders (1-0). The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the 38th minute, before Guess scored just before the end of the half, making it a 3-1 game at the break.
Great Lakes Christian reclaimed a three-goal lead with another strike in the 50th minute; nine minutes later, Million would score the Titan's second goal of the day. Defensively, goalkeeper
Kaitlin Paul finished with nine saves in 90 minutes of work.
The Titans return to Newton Park on Tuesday, August 31, when they host Huntington (Ind.). Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
