LINCOLN, Ill. – IU South Bend had their strongest defensive performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the host Lincoln Lynx 64-50 for their fourth win in the past five games.
The Titans (14-5, 7-4 CCAC) held their opponents to just 27.8% shooting, marking a season low for IUSB. On the other end of the floor, Katie Gard led IU South Bend with 14 points, along with seven rebounds and four assists. Sara Doi finished with 13 points, while Maddie Gard collected 12 points with seven boards and four assists.
IUSB never trailed throughout the game, going on a 9-2 run to open the game highlighted by six points from Emma Fisher. The Lynx (2-13, 2-11 CCAC) would close the gap to 9-8 by the 5:48 mark of the first quarter, but would then go nearly six minutes without a field goal as the Titans pulled away with a 21-12 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Another 14-4 run for the Titans midway through the second pushed the lead further, as Amaya Rufus's jumper made it a 37-18 lead for IUSB. Doi would hit a pair of three-pointers in the second quarter, finishing with 11 first-half points.
The Titans would take an 18-point lead into the halftime break, and maintain a double-digit advantage the rest of the way, earning the season sweep over the Lynx.
IU South Bend returns home on Monday, when they host No. 23 Saint Xavier in a rematch of their visit to Chicago back on Nov. 17. Tipoff with the reigning CCAC champs is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
