SOUTH BEND, Ind. – No. 20 IU South Bend set a new program record, earning their 17th conference victory of the season in an 88-70 win over Trinity International at the Student Activities Center on Saturday afternoon.
Five players finished in double figures for the Titans (22-4, 17-2 CCAC), led by Dylan Allen's game-high 16 points. Allen went 6-for-12 from the floor, collecting eight assists on the day. Donyell Meredith tallied 14 points with seven rebounds, and Kenny Washington came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Spencer Pettit and Micah Poole each finished with 11.
IUSB led throughout most of the first half, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead on Sergio Diaz' jumper two minutes into play. The Trojans (12-16, 8-12 CCAC) briefly tied the game at 13 with a pair of scores out of a timeout at the 15:12 mark, but three-pointers from Allen and Pettit pushed the Titan advantage back to six, and the home team would maintain a single-digit lead throughout the rest of the first half.
A run of 11 unanswered points gave the Titans a 14-point advantage midway through the second half, following a three from Meredith and a fast-break layup from Washington, with Poole assisting on both scores. IUSB continued to pull away, going up by as much as 23 in the closing minutes before Trinity International closed the game on a 7-2 run over the final 50 seconds of regulation.
With the win, the Titans' magic number to earn a spot in the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship is down to just one, and a win in their next game will punch their ticket to the NAIA tournament. Next up for IUSB is a makeup game at Governors State; originally postponed earlier in the season, the Titans will now face the Jaguars on Monday night, February 14. Tipoff from University Park, Ill. is set for 8:00 p.m.
