MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Maddie Gard led IU South Bend with 15 points, while her sister Katie finished with 11 as the duo returned to their home state in a 70-55 victory for the Titans over Cardinal Stritch on Saturday afternoon.
The Titans (18-6, 11-5 CCAC) led start-to-finish, opening with eight straight points from Maddie and Katie Gard. The IUSB defense held the Wolves (6-16, 4-12 CCAC) to just one field goal over the first seven minutes of play, and just six points in the opening period. Led by Taitlyn Trenshaw's seven points and pair of three-pointers in the first quarter, the Titans would take a 19-6 lead by the end of the period.
IU South Bend continued to pull away early in the second quarter, scoring ten straight to claim a 29-6 lead by the 8:17 mark. The home team responded before the end of the half, out-scoring the Titans 16-4 over the closing seven and a half minutes. IUSB would still lead by double-digits, going into the break with a 35-24 advantage.
In the third quarter the Titans pulled away, scoring nine points on six forced turnovers. A fast-break layup from Maddie Gard would push the IUSB lead to 22 points, 53-31. Cardinal Stritch would out-score the Titans in the fourth quarter, but IUSB maintained a double-digit advantage to secure the win.
Along with Maddie and Katie Gard, Rachael Robards also finished in double figures, scoring 11 points in the win. Emma Fisher brought down nine rebounds to go with five points.
The Titans continue the current road trip on Monday night, when they travel to Chicago to take on Roosevelt. Tipoff from the Goodman Center on February 7 is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
