KOKOMO, Ind. – Four Titans led the offense with a pair of base hits each, but IU South Bend were unable to keep pace with the Grace (Ind.) Lancers, 12-7 at Champions Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Kole Miller, Hunder Bedell, and Nolan Unger each finished 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, as the Titans (2-8) posted runs in the 1st and 2nd innings before a four-run 5th frame. Scott Stetsz opened the game by reaching base on error, then later scored on a second fielding error to give IUSB the early 1-0 lead.
The Lancers (6-7) responded with three runs in the bottom of the 1st, but Bedell would lead off the 2nd with a single, then scored on a dropped third strike. Grace would add six more runs in the next two innings to add to their lead.
In the top of the 5th, Tony Reyes, Donnie Necas, and Evan Allen led off with three straight base hits, including an RBI double for Allen. A balk followed by a ground out would bring in two more runs, before Unger's RBI single scored Coby Campbell. The Titan offense would go cold with one hit over the next three innings, before Bedell's sac fly in the 9th brining home Allen.
The Titans are back in action on Saturday, March 5 when they begin the Florida swing with a doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn in Auburndale, Fla.
