GRANGER, Ind. – Evan Allen's three-run home run helped give IU South Bend the lead midway through the game, but Olivet Nazarene would take the series sweep on Saturday afternoon, winning 9-5 at Rex Weade Stadium.
Allen's blast would nearly erase a four-run deficit after the Tigers (18-14, 11-2 CCAC) opened with three runs in the bottom of the 1st, and another in the 3rd. After Brett Sikorski and Jake Vanderwoude reached base, Allen sent one over the left-center fence to make it 4-3 score.
The Titans (9-20, 3-10 CCAC) took the lead in the top of the 6th, with leadoff walks from Sikorski and Vanderwoude before Kole Miller's bunt single loaded the bases with no outs. A double play would allow a run to score and tie the game, and Donnie Necas' two-out single scored Vanderwoude for a 5-4 Titan lead.
The Tigers would rally back in the bottom half of the inning however, scoring three to reclaim a 7-5 advantage. Two more runs in the 8th would put the game out of reach for IUSB.
Tony Reyes would finish 2-for-4 on the day, as the only Titan to record multiple base hits in the game. Zach Brooks Dehn pitched 1.1 innings of relief without a hit allowed to lead the Titan bullpen.
IU South Bend are back in action on Tuesday, April 5, when they travel for a doubleheader with Judson. First pitch from Elgin, Ill. is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
