CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Evan Allen hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, giving IU South Bend the lead, but four runs over the final two innings was enough for the host Roosevelt Lakers to earn a come-from-behind walkoff win on Friday night, 6-5 over the Titans at Ozinga Field.
Allen, along with Nolan Unger each finished with three base hits apiece for the Titans (12-25-1, 6-15-1 CCAC). Starting pitcher Zack Dobos went into the 8th inning, working around seven hits and four runs in a no-decision.
IU South Bend would strike first, as Unger's leadoff walk led to an RBI single from Brenden Bell for the early 1-0 lead. Roosevelt (18-21, 12-11 CCAC) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st to move in front, before the Titans would tie the game in the 3rd. A walk followed by singles from Brett Sikorski and Evan Allen set the table for a game-tying sac fly from Jake Vanderwoude.
Allen's solo home run in the 5th inning would give the Titans a 3-2 lead. After the Lakers' rally in the 1st inning, Dobos would allow just one batter to reach scoring position until the bottom of the 8th, where a combined five walks were allowed by IUSB pitchers. The Lakers would take a 4-3 lead going into the 9th inning, where IU South Bend would rally again.
Kole Miller's RBI double scored Vanderwoude to tie the game again at 4-4, and a two-out RBI single from Unger scored pinch-runner Nick Banks to give the Titans the lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Roosevelt would have their first four batters reach base, evening the score again at 5-5, and two batters later, would close out the game with a walk-off base hit.
The Titans will look to even the series with the Lakers on Saturday afternoon, as they host Roosevelt for a doubleheader at Rex Weade Stadium. First pitch from The Rex is set for 3:00 p.m.
