SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (20-1, 13-1 CCAC) defeated the Governors State Jaguars (6-16, 4-10 CCAC) by a score of 70-43. Saturday's victory extends the Titans winning streak to 10 games and keeps them on top of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, leading IU Northwest by a half game.
IU South Bend won the tip-off and immediately began firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 17-0 lead to start the game. A swarming Titans defense held Governors State to just six total points in the first 10 minutes of play, thanks to an abysmal 20% shooting performance from the field by the Jaguars.
The second quarter was more of the same, as the Titans outscored Governors State 20-15 in the quarter, thanks to two three points field goals from
Rachael Robards. By knocking down three of her four three point attempts, Robards improved her three point percentage to 43.4%, good for second best in the CCAC.
The second half of play saw IU South Bend outscore the Jaguars in both quarters, on their way to a 70-43 victory.
Offensively, the Titans were led by
Maddie Gard who finished with a game high 14 points on better than 80% shooting from the field. Knocking down five of the six shots she attempted, Gard increased her field goal percentage to 56.1% for the season, good for third in the CCAC.
The other Titan to reach double figures was
Katie Gard, doing so by going 5-13 from the field while also knocking down both free throws she attempted. Gard also collected six rebounds, dished out three assists, and stole three passes in Saturday's victory over Governors State.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, February 1st, when they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University.
