Titans defeat IU Northwest to improve to 1-0 in conference

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (4-3, 1-0 CCAC) defeated the Indiana University Northwest RedHawks (3-3, 0-1 CCAC) by a final score of 84-74. Tuesday's win get the Titans back above .500 and improves them to 1-0 in CCAC play. 

Tied at 18-18 just over halfway through the first half, the Titans went on a 9-2 run to take 27-20 lead. Still the RedHawks battled keeping the game within reach before a 6-0 spurt to close out the first half gave the Titans a 44-31 lead heading into halftime. 

IU Northwest came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders as they opened the second half on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 46-46 before a basket from senior guard Micah Poole put a stop to the RedHawks momentum. 

Indiana Northwest cut the Titans lead to as little as four points at 63-59 before IU South Bend closed the game on a 21-15 run to defeat the RedHawks by a final score of 84-74. 

The IU South Bend offense featured three players to score in double figures, led by Jylen Petty who finished with a season high 22 points.

Petty's 22 points came on just two missed field goals, as he shot 7-9 from the field, 6-8 from the free throw line, and 2-3 from the three point line while also hauling in eight rebounds. 

The next Titan to score in double figures was senior forward Dejon Barney who finished with an 18 point double-double. 

Barney's 18 points came on just under 50% shooting from the field and 5-7 shooting from the free throw line while collecting 10 rebounds to secure his fourth consecutive double-double. 

With 10 rebounds and three blocks, Barney now leads the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in blocked shots and rebounds per game. 

The last Titan to score in double figures was guard Micah Poole who finished with 10 points. 

Poole's 10 points came on a perfect 4-4 shooting from the free throw line and gives him his fourth game this season scoring double digits. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, November 29th, when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind., to take on the Saints of Holy Cross College at 7:30 PM.
